My Hometown was inspired by The UK Chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), supported by Collingwood Learning, and delivered in partnership with UCL Centre for Holocaust Education.

The IHRA network consists of 35 countries as well as key international partner organizations with a mandate to deal with Holocaust-related issues with experts. The experts include representatives from the world’s foremost institutions which specialize in education, remembrance, and research about the Holocaust.

This year (2024/25) the UK holds the presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). The theme of the UK presidency is ‘In Plain Sight’, which seeks to address how it came to be that society allowed the murder of six million Jewish people. So many people witnessed, facilitated, participated in, and even benefited from the Holocaust; in short it did not go unseen. ‘My Hometown’ makes a key contribution to this theme, ensuring students from around the world are learning about how the Holocaust took place in the places they are growing up, the their own hometowns.
