Research

Learning

Taking the question ‘How can something terrible bring about something positive?’ as a starting point, students interviewed Holocaust survivors and their families who have contributed positively to life in Buenos Aires through their professional and business achievements. Through these interviews students were able to establish a direct connection between their hometown today and the events of the two world wars.

Students developed their understanding of the events leading to World War Two and the dangers of xenophobia and racism using a variety of written and video materials. A visit to the Holocaust Museum in Buenos Aires further enriched understanding through direct connection with original objects and testimony, including a virtual, interactive interview with Holocaust survivor Lea Zajac.

Enrichment

Sharing

Students debated the meaning of the term ‘resilience’ and what it means to them personally. They considered the human propensity to worry about trivial matters when, in-fact, the Holocaust evidences the human capacity to overcome terrible circumstances. Students met and interviewed Holocaust survivors and descendants about their life stories, further reinforcing their appreciation of human resilience in action.

Students have created and produced their own 5-minute video, encapsulating their learning and research. This video will be shared with the entire extended school community during the end-of-year concert. Furthermore, the video will be shared through school social networks and with all the individuals and institutions who collaborated with them on this powerful project.
