My Hometown invited schools to participate in a local research project consisting of four core elements.

Research

Learning

Schools were encouraged to support students to research the physical space around their hometown or nearby sites with relevance to the Holocaust, together with local maps, historical records, and testimonies, as a creative way to begin the process.

Students were challenged to consider the historical context of local connections to the Holocaust, the impact of the legacy, and why it’s important to tell these stories and remember the victims of the Holocaust.

Our Approach

Support

We supported schools with a Teacher’s Guide, one-to-one sessions for teachers, online international workshops, and ongoing support and guidance.

Submissions

Student and school contributions were recognised by an international online conference where young people presented their work, certification for everyone taking part, and this gallery, which will act as a permanent record of the achievements of participating schools, and an inspiration to others.

Recognition

Our My Hometown Gallery is a celebration of the creative, collaborative, and innovative projects led by young people and their educators. We hope it inspires a new generation to continue exploring the Holocaust and its legacy in unique ways.
