Research

Learning
The basis for this project was a Jewish family heirloom – a prayer book and poem. From this, students researched the story of the Fischer family who, after liberation, settled in Leamington Spa. The research led to the creation of a ‘Bud and Blossom’ memorial garden and commemorative mosaic.
After studying the Holocaust, students learned that the stories from this period are not just about death but about life. They also learned about the lack of memorials in parts of the world, and the sacredness of a person’s name. The idea of a memorial garden embodies these key areas of learning.
