Students have been researching the life of Alice Slucklin, an academic and esteemed psychiatric social worker, who came to the UK in 1939 and worked in a Children’s Hospital just a few minutes’ walk away from the school. Born to Jewish parents in Prague, Alice escaped the Nazi regime, but her family did not.
Students have been learning about how Alice came to Southampton, and her work at the Children’s Hospital. Students have also been researching Alice’s family, who were placed in camps, and what happened to them. Through a wide range of historical documents supplied by Alice’s family, students have been able to piece together her biography and have also been able to talk to Alice’s son.
